PPGLEN Internationalization and CAPES PRINT Program

1) In the first years of the quadrennium 2017-2020
Regarding the international insertion of the Program, partnerships and agreements between PPGLEN and institutions from other countries are traditional and consistent, being the characteristics of the subarea of foreign modern languages and literatures a reason for this. As examples, we mention the agreement CAPES/Cofecub, and cooperation agreements with foreign universities, such as the Université of Provence, Paris XII Université, Università degli Studi di Roma – La Sapienza, Università Studi di Siena, Universidade Normal de Sichuan (Chengdu), among others, which took place in the last quadrennium (2013-2016).

As examples, we mention the agreement CAPES/Cofecub, and cooperation agreements with foreign universities, such as the Université of Provence, Paris XII Université, Università degli Studi di Roma – La Sapienza, Università Studi di Siena, Universidade Normal de Sichuan (Chengdu), among others, which took place in the last quadrennium (2013-2016).

From among the agreements for international co-operation in force in the current quadrennium (2017-2020), we highlight the following exchange actions:

– Academic-Scientific Agreement between PPGLEN/UFRJ and Université of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, through the Centre d’Histoire Culturelle des Sociétés Contemporaines and of the École Doctorale Cultures, régulations, instituitions, territoire, France. Professor Pedro Paulo Garcia Ferreira Catharina (PPGLEN), and Professor Jean-Yves Mollier (French University) are responsible for this agreement. Agreement signature date: July 11, 2013 – validity: Five years (<http://www.scri.ufrj.br>). In 2017 and 2018, PPGLEN received Professor Jean-Yves Mollier to particpate in conferences and debates with professors and undergraduate and graduate students, which were organized by Professor Pedro Paulo Catharina and Professor Celina Moreira Mello.

– Cooperation Agreement with Università degli Studi di Salerno, Italy, coordinated by Professor Fabiano Dalla Bona (PPGLEN/UFRJ). It is about a General Agreement for Academic Cooperation and Technical, Scientific, and Cultural Exchange, for which mobility is expected. Agreement signature date: January 1st, 2013 — validity: Five years (<http://www.scri.ufrj.br>). In 2017, Professor Sebastiano Martelli, Professor Rosa Maria Grillo, and Professor Giorgio Sica (US Salerno) have participated in the 17th ABPI Convention, in the 11th Italian Studies International Meeting, and in the 6th Italian Journey of Latin America: Transits, migration and circulation, Italy and Italian in movement (free translation), at Faculty of Letters of UFRJ.

— Cooperation Agreement through the signature of the Protocol of Intentions between UFRJ and Universidade de Burgos (Spain), implemented in November of 2018 by Professor Miguel Ángel Zamorano Heras (PPGLEN/URFJ) and Professor María Luisa Lobato (Group PROTEO/UBU), with scientific meetings held in Madrid (2017), and in Burgos (February, 2019), as well as collaborations such as the translation into Portuguese of Entremeses, by Agustín Moreto, (http://www.moretianos.com/tradPortugues.php), and their collaboration on the book Teatro Breve do Século de Ouro, which is expected to be published by Editora Perspectiva, in 2019. Furthermore, the following procedures for international cooperation agreements have been initiated in the current quadrennium:

— Professor Ana Maria Lisboa de Mello and Professor Elena Palmero Gonzaléz: agreement between UFRJ and University Michel de Montaigne, Bordeaux, France.

— Professor Antonio Francisco de Andrade Júnior: agreement with Ptsdam University, Germany, together with Professor Doctor Ottmar Ette, who internationally leads the Trans Studies theoretical line.

— Professor Marcelo Jacques de Moraes: on going agreement with Valenciennes University, France.
We highlight the following actions engaging international partnerships:

— Professor Ana Maria Lisboa de Mello:
Meetings, entries revision, and assembly coordination of the Dicionário de personagens portuguesas na prosa ficcional brasileira (Dictionary of Portuguese characters in Brazilian fiction prose, in free translation), in partnership with University of Colorado-Boulder, Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris, and CLEPUL – Universidade de Lisboa. Those were actions related to the project «Portugueses de papel. Personagens portuguesas no romance brasileiro» (Paper Portugueses. Portuguese characters in Brazilian novel, in free translation). That is a project comprising more than 100 researchers in Brazil and abroad. In Brazil, the project is coordinated by Ana Maria Lisboa; in France, by Jacqueline Penjon (Sorbonne Nouvelle); in the United States, by Tania Martuscelli (University of Colorado-Boulder).
Professor Cláudia Heloisa Impellizieri Luna Ferreira da Silva:
Partnership between UBA and UFRJ for co-supervision of the post-doctoral research by Professor Regina Simon da Silva (UFRN), performed by Professor Cláudia Luna and Professor Cristina Iglesia, professor at Institute of Letters of UFRJ (2018-2019).

— Professor Elena Cristina Palmero González
Guest speaker at Colloque Perspectives dé centré es dans le monde lusophone et ailleurs: discours, territoire et société actuelle. Migrations em Amérique Latine, in October 2018, at Université Bordeaux Montaigne, institution with which an international cooperation agreement is being prepared (the proceedings are at the final phase of signature by rectors).
Also noteworthy is the constant sending of PPGLEN doctoral students, with PDSE scholarship by CAPES, for sandwich doctoral studies in universities abroad that have agreements with PPGLEN. Furthermore, we highlight the PPGLEN participation in Print (the Institutional Program of Internationalization, by CAPES), presented by UFRJ.
It should also be mentioned the endeavor by ALEA Journal Editors in inviting researchers that are considered international reference in their study areas to act as guest editors for each volume of the journal.

 

2) CAPES PRINT PROGRAM – second half of the quadrennium
Since UFRJ has been contemplated by CAPES PRINT program, PPGLEN is able to count on the resources of this notice provided for in its work plan for the next four years, namely: scholarships for Visiting Professors Abroad, PDSE scholarships for doctoral students and Work Mission of PPGLEN’s professors abroad, as well as foreign professors working in our Program.
In 2019, official notices were disclosed and applicants were selected for the following scholarships and missions bounded to on going or consolidated agreements between UFRJ and foreign universities:

The following foreign guests were received to participate in Conventions and Seminars in 2019, under the edge of PPGLEN:

 a) Doctor Stéphane Pétermann (Université de Lausanne, France), invited as guest speaker in the 2nd Symposium SIELCC (International symposium of languages and cultures in contact), held at Faculty of Letters of UFRJ on October 7-10, 2019.

b) Doctor Federico Gerhardt (Universidad de La Plata, Argentina), invited to present the conference on Literature and Exile During the Civil War in Spain, at Faculty of Letters of UFRJ, in November, 2019.
c) Professor Doctor Pablo Rocca (Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación, Universidad de la República, Argentina), who presented the conference about Brazil in the Library Ayacucho de Caracas.
d) Alfredo Vélez Rodríguez (Universidad de Burgos, Spain), who presented the conference “Cervantes y el Viaje de Turquia de Pedro de Urdemalas, at the 19th Colloquium of Graduate Studies and Research in Neo-Latin Letters, at Faculty of Letters of UFRJ, in October, 2019.
e) Professor Philpp Obrist (Zurich, Switzerland) and Patrícia Ramos (PPGLEN doctoral student and substitute professor at Université de Lausanne), who presented the conference “Polycentrism in teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language in Switzerland”, in October 2019, and Field Research with students at Faculty of Letters of UFRJ.
